Since Ford launches today, I decided to get my rear in gear and post my review of Tate. Tate is the second book in the Montana Marshalls series and picks up right where Knox left off. This series is one that you need to read in order as the plotlines and characters do carry through from one book to the next.
This book focuses on Tate and his relationship with Gloria “Glo” Jackson. Their story started in Knox, and their blossoming relationship takes a hit right from the beginning of this book as an old enemy of Tate’s catches up to him while they’re in Las Vegas.
Glo has a history of loss that leads her to pull away to protect herself. Tate is unwilling to give up on her. He is willing to do what it takes, including following the directives of Glo’s mom, a senator that is now running for president, to stay close and protect her. While her reasons are understandable and more are revealed as the story progresses, the push-away, pull-together romance is more angsty than I prefer.
The other members of the Marshall family make a reappearance, and new characters are introduced in Glo’s family. Glo’s mom has definitely made my list of most disliked characters through her actions in this book.
Like in Knox, we have part of the story told by the main characters from the next book in the series, which means Ford Marshall and Scarlett Hathaway. Because they are more disconnected from Tate and Glo’s story, these sections were more jarring than in Knox.
The action starts with the first chapter, and the plot is well-paced with plots, intrigue, and manipulation.
While I didn’t like this book as well as Knox, it was still well worth reading. Now, I’m off to read Ford.
