Argeneau Vampires #4

“I didn’t mess up the explaining part.”

Bastien Argeneau

This book just didn’t resonate with me. The lead pair ran hot and cold, and the errors around the wedding never gelled into the comedy of errors that was the author’s goal.

Bastien is the rock that the entire family leans on, leading to them taking him for granted. This starts the book off on the wrong foot for me as Lucern and Kate dump a steaming pile of work in his lap and jet off to California. Cousin Vinny piles on the workload by running off the housekeeper and then nonchalantly sitting back to watch the chaos while lecturing Bastien.

I liked Luc and Kate in their own book but absolutely hated them, especially Kate, for how they treated Bastien in this book. Just because he is the responsible sibling doesn’t mean that you dump your flighty cousin, injured co-worker, and wedding preparations (two weeks before the wedding) in his penthouse and jet off to California with nary a thought.

Terri’s decision to drop everything and spend the two weeks before Kate’s wedding in New York really made me leery from the get-go. She had moments when I liked her, but her flightiness kicking in towards the end of the book really soured my attitude towards her. It is really not a good sign when I am enthusiastically cheering on a character reading the heroine the riot act.

The different issues that crop up had the potential to be funny, but the fact that each incident just adds to Bastien’s workload sucked the fun out of it for me. He keeps a good attitude and rolls with the punches, which made me really like him. Unfortunately, I spent more time feeling sorry for him than enjoying his budding romance.

The Argeneau family is a unique, rambunctious lot that can be a lot of fun. Sadly, this book didn’t do them justice or show them in a good light.
