Mary Jo Putney – Christmas Revels

The great thing about anthologies entirely by an author I enjoy is that I know I will like all of the novellas, which is the case with this one. Mary Jo Putney’s collection of Christmas stories shines. The stories were written between 1990 and 2002, but they all hold up well. I laughed, smiled, and ended the book wanting to read more.

Review: Mary Jo Putney – The Bargain

I expected this book to be four or five stars in the early chapters. Sadly, it hit a brick wall and went from fun fluffiness to angsty drama around the halfway point. The second half of the book took me nearly twice as long as the first because I would keep putting it down.

Review: Mary Jo Putney – Once a Soldier

Most Regency-era novels take place in England, so it is a refreshing change of pace for this book to be set on the continent. The tiny country of San Gabriel gives an up-close view of the devastation of the Peninsular Wars. A French general, Baudin, retreating through the country left a large swath of destruction in his wake and took the king and crown prince as prisoners. This devastation makes a magnificent backdrop for Will Masterson and Athena Markham’s growing relationship.
