Nadine is exceptional at highlighting unique issues without being preachy. Building on the foundation in Eubeltic Descent, Eubeltic Quest deftly shows how we cannot escape the past no matter how far we are from home, but how we cope with it will change our future.

Garland’s impending independence has brought King Zacharias and Daun far from home to celebrate the newest member of the Eubeltic Realm. Despite the new location, none of the locals stood out to me. Instead, the focus remained on Zacharias, Daun, and Abigaia.

I appreciated getting more insight into Zacharias’s thoughts and personality. He is contemplative as he weighs the history of his family’s rule against the changes that Garland’s independence will herald. While Zacharias’s focus is on a countrywide level, Daun’s is much more personal.

Where he would least expect it, he is confronted by not only his own past but Abigaia’s as well. Both have different hurts they have moved past, but those old wounds can still cause pain. While some parts were more poignant, I enjoyed seeing them decide how to deal with these new revelations and what it means for their futures.

I loved the growth that the characters showed in this book and look forward to seeing what else is in store for them.
